Problem: No one else showed up at the meeting.
This can be frustrating. SA is a “we” program – we need each other to recover. If you are a newcomer, we encourage you to keep trying other meetings until you find an active one. Many meetings have contact information listed on the Meeting Finder. These contacts can help you find an active meeting.
Changes/additions needed in the Meeting Finder.
There is a web-based tool for this purpose that is designed to make the process easy. For the protection of the fellowship, we do not circulate the web address for that tool openly. Rather, members of the fellowship need to engage the SA Service Structure to obtain it.
What is the SA service structure?
See the SA Service Manual, in particular Chapter 18.
To add a meeting:
(a) If you are new to SA or are having trouble staying sober, we recommend you not start a meeting. Please join an existing group first (see White Book page 185). New meetings grow best if they start with at least a few experienced members who have stable, growing sobriety.
(b) If you live in a region with a local Intergroup, please contact the Intergroup Meeting List Coordinator or Intergroup Chair, who will have instructions on how you can register your meeting.
(c) If no local Intergroup exists, see the SA Service Manual, Chapter 8, to determine which Region your meeting belongs in and see if you can find a nearby Intergroup to help you register. If you don’t know anyone in the Region service structure, SAICO can help get connected.
(d) If your meeting would not be served by a Region, contact SAICO for help. The Fellowship is interested in helping new Intergroups and Regions form. This includes virtual meetings. See also Tradition 9.
To submit an update to a meeting:
(1) The Trusted Servant who registered the meeting should have an email with instructions on how to modify meeting information. Search emails for “SA Census” in the From field.
(2) If the meeting registration email was lost, the Intergroup Meeting List Coordinator or Chair may have a copy and be able to assist.
(3) If no one can find a copy of the original registration email, send an email to SAICO to receive the link used to edit the meeting’s information.
Include in the email:
- the service position you occupy that gives you the responsibility of editing the meeting’s information and
- the meeting’s Record Number. The meeting’s Record Number is found when you click the meeting’s green plus below the map.
When you update the meeting’s information, please include the Intergroup’s email as the meeting contact, fill out the HIPAA-compliant Part 2 of the form (this is the only place you should put your personal email) and save any emails that are sent by the Meeting Registration/Update system. SAICO can help, but we can also help SAICO.
If your meeting is not currently served by an Intergroup, please consider connecting with other nearby meetings (in the face-to-face world) or similar meetings (in the virtual world) to begin the process of creating an Intergroup/Region. See the SA Service Manual.
To delete a meeting:
Follow the procedure above for submitting an update. When you pull up the meeting information, check the box “This meeting no longer exists” in the Meeting Venue section. Make sure to finish the Personal Information section (Part 2) and save the resulting email. If the meeting restarts, you can use the information in that link to pull the form back up and uncheck “This meeting no longer exists.”
