March 2021 Spiritual Spring Clean
Get ready for your best year ever in recovery by completing Steps 1-8 and progressing Steps 9-12 in just 10 hours.
- Part One: Complete Steps 1-5 on Saturday 13th March 2021 from 12 noon until 5 pm New York time (17.00-22.00 pm London time).
- Part Two: Complete Steps 6-8 and begin working Steps 9-12 on Saturday 20th March 2021 from 12 noon until 5 pm New York time (17.00-22.00 pm London time).
What is the aim? To have a spiritual awakening through working the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous as applied to your particular addiction, obsession or compulsion in 10 hours. Workshop participants usually experience a profound change in their thinking, feelings, attitudes and beliefs.
How is this done? Over the two days, Steps 1-8 will be completed, Step 9 will be begun but not finished and Steps 10, 11 & 12 will be practiced. After the workshop, it is recommended that participants complete Step 9 with their sponsor, as soon as possible, and continue to practice Steps 10, 11 & 12 on a daily basis.
What’s involved? As described in the book Alcoholics Anonymous, the 12 Steps are a series of actions, which include praying, meditating, writing and sharing. All such actions are voluntary. Participants may balk at any of the Steps, though this is not recommended. Anyone who does, is welcome to remain in the workshop – as an observer – or to leave, as preferred.
Who can participate? Anyone who has a desire to stop their addiction, obsession or compulsion whatever it might be. Access to both Zoom and WhatsApp are necessary for participation. Please note that materials prepared in Part One will be needed in order to complete Part Two.
How much does it cost? There is no charge for the Step work itself (but you will incur a debt which can only be discharged by helping others to complete the 12 Steps).
Timekeeping? The Steps can only be done in their correct order, so it is essential to attend all sessions on time. Missed Steps cannot be caught up once the group has moved on. The Step work itself takes 10 hours.
Contact and boundaries? Please attend the workshop with your camera off and your microphone muted unless you are invited to speak. All activities are voluntary.
Maximum participants? 100 via Zoom.
What criteria should attendees meet? A desire to quit your addiction, obsession or compulsion. Ideally, you should already be participating in a recovery fellowship (AA, CA, NA, OA, GSA, SA, etc.), have obtained a sponsor, have completed a written Step One on powerlessness over your problem and have shared this with others in your recovery fellowship, but complete beginners are welcome too.
Who should probably not attend? Anyone who believes they can still control their addiction, obsession or compulsion or who wants to go on practicing it.
Anonymity and Confidentiality? On the internet there is no guarantee of privacy, so your anonymity is yours to guard or to give away. If you wish to let other participants know your real first name and the 12 Step Fellowship(s) to which you belong, please feel free but you are under no obligation to do so. You can use a nickname when joining the Zoom meeting if you prefer. There is no open sharing during this Workshop, except at the very end, and this will be focused on carrying the message and will not be recorded. Your own Step work will be done individually and occasionally in pairs. Question periods are confined to clarifying the next task to be completed. You are requested to keep your microphone muted with your camera off at all times and to use the WhatsApp group below for all communications during the workshop.
Workbooks? These 24 page A4 documents, into which your Step work is written, can be located here. Please choose the workbook most suitable for you, download it and then print it double sided on 12 sheets of A4 paper. I shall be leading this particular workshop using the workbook containing the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). But you will be able to follow using the workbook that you have chosen.
Literature Quotations? Relevant passages from the Big Book Alcoholics Anonymous and from Dr Bob and the Good Oldtimers will be read aloud and posted into the above WhatsApp group, so you can read along. You do not need to have these books to hand.
Recordings? The workshop will be recorded – audio only – and the recordings will be made available after each session. If you do not wish to be recorded please do not speak. Should you miss any part of the workshop, you can catch up by listening to a previous workshop recording here.
Signing Up? Only if you intend to participate, join the Workshop WhatsApp group now at https://chat.whatsapp.com/KrlnHZsPq6QKvZkfNqeG2n where the Zoom meeting room link and password will be announced 30 minutes before the workshop begins and where texts and instructions will also be posted throughout.
